Why should I delete my data from data hotels?
You should delete your data from hotels because the type of personal data typically stored by them is highly sensitive, and often shared with third parties.
Mainly, because what happens to your data should be up to you.
Personal data that hotels typically store:
- Contact details
- Credit and debit card details
- Name and address
- Cookies & IP address

Hotels also often supplement their customer data with data collected from elsewhere, such as credit reports and social media accounts.
Seem excessive? It is. While collecting so much data may be beneficial to a hotel, helping them make operational and product decisions, it puts you as a consumer at risk.
As well as many hotels selling this information to third parties, the industry also has a long history of data breaches. For example, in February 2020 hotel chain Marriott International had 5.2 million records compromised.

How do I tell hotels to delete my personal data?

Will I still be able to keep my booking with a hotel?
Sending a deletion request to a hotel means that they have to delete all of the information that they have about you - including your account, purchase history and address. This could potentially compromise an existing booking, so we'd recommend contacting them first to let them know.
We're currently working on another option, which will allow you to tell hotels to delete all of the extra, marketing-type information they have about you, but to keep the information necessary for you to keep a booking with them. How long until hotels respond to my request?
After a hotel has received your request, they have to reply in full within 30 days, or give a valid reason for asking for an extension. If this happens, our support team is here to help!
What if they refuse to delete my personal data from their records?
Don't worry, they have to delete your data if you ask them by law: this is thanks to your ‘right to erasure’ under GDPR law. GDPR applies in the UK and EU.
What if I’ve said they can use it in the past?
If you agreed to an organisation using your data but you’ve changed your mind, don’t worry! You can still ask them to delete your data.
What if I’m not sure if they have my data?
You can still ask them. If they don’t have it, they have to let you know.
